A Good Mid-19th Century 'Scott Memorial' Striking Skeleton Clock

Attributable to Evans, Handsworth, Birmingham
Modelled on the 1846 public monument with tall central spire set with crockets and pierced trefoil windows over an angled porch in which sits the late poet with his dog, Maida, beside him, on a stepped white marble base on four button feet. The silvered, skeletonised dial with shield-shaped numeral plaques and gothic Roman numerals, the minutes marked as single lines to the outer edge, under blued steel fleur des lys hands. The twin chain fusee movement with deadbeat escapement to a cylindrical wood and lead bob pendulum, with wheels of five- and six- crossings throughout. Ticking, striking, and repeating on a substantial coiled steel gong set on a decorative brass upright, with mahogany handled crank key.
62cms (24ins) high
