A rare early 19th century French gilt and patinated brass quarter striking Skeleton clock with gridiron pendulum

The case surmounted by the heavy gridiron pendulum of five steel and four brass interconnected rods within a frame, suspended on a knife-edge and terminating in a large bevelled brass lenticular bob, the spring-driven movement with wheels of six delicate crossings throughout, and a very fine deadbeat escapement, all contained within a horizontal frame above the patinated and gilt case with 4-inch white enamel Roman dial with moon hands, on a foliate cast base and block feet. The movement wound from above and with motion work running into the base, driving the hands via bevelled gearing. The hammers also set in the base (bells now absent).

88cms (34.5ins) high
