A late 18th century French ormolu and marble mantel clock

Jubel, Paris
The case surmounted by an urn with gilt brass foliage, gilt wreaths and overflowing cornucopias to either side of the dial, with lower gilt mounts, on four knurled toupie feet. The 4.5 inch Roman and Arabic enamel dial signed Jubel A Paris under elaborately pierced brass hands. The twin spring barrel movement with tic-tac escapement and shaped back plate with outside count wheel striking on a bell and silk suspension. Ticking, and striking the half and full hour with winding key, two pocket watch keys for suspension regulation, and purchase paperwork from 1956.

Footnotes

Provenance: The clock was bought in 1956, from Gregory & Co of 27 Bruton Street, Berkeley Square, London. The clock was exhibited at the 1956 Antique Dealer's Fair and Exhibition, where it was purchased for £68. The receipt states that the clock was exhibited without the bezel. A replacement was later found, and supplied gratis. Before being collected, the clock was serviced by J. Kinner, of 78 Heath Street, Hampstead for a charge of £5.
