A late 18th century French ormolu and marble mantel clock with enamel dial by Coteau
Pochon, Paris
Surmounted by an urn set with gilt brass foliage, gilt laurels and overflowing cornucopias to either side of the dial, with beading and a gilt mount of a torch and floral vines, the lower base with recessed floral wreath and beading below six toupie feet. The 4.5 inch Roman and Arabic enamel dial signed in red Pochon A Paris under elaborately pierced brass hands, signed coteau below 30. The twin spring barrel movement with shaped back plate, anchor escapement with silk suspension and outside count wheel striking on a bell. Ticking, and striking the half and full hour with winding key, a pocket watch key for suspension regulation, and purchase paperwork from 1949.

The clock was purchased in 1949 from Frank Partridge & Sons, Ltd. of 144-146 New Bond Street, London for £145. The clock was subsequently serviced by Dent in 1973, and Simon Coulton of South Brent in 1994.
