An 18th century Continental carved and decorated rack timepiece

The 16 inch brass rack supported on the head of a standing gentleman in harlequin jacket with prominent buttons and gilt belt, wearing breeches tied at the knee over stockings and shoes on a faux rockwork base, his upturned head looking towards the descending movement and dial (the rack now further supported by an associated brass supporting bar). The 4.5 inch shaped engraved brass dial plate with shell, feather and foliate engraved border to the 2.25 inch silvered Roman dial with blued steel spade hands. The movement with lead drum-shaped body driving a pin pallet escapement and front-mounted 'cow tail' pendulum. Ticking. 85cms (33ins) high
