Patek Philippe introduced the solar powered clock in 1950 with a hybrid electric and mechanical system. This type of clock, which generated electricity through the photovoltaic cells to the dome powered a battery backup system as well as generated the power to manually wind the caliber 17'''-150 pocket watch movement contained within. The present lot is a later generation of solar powered quartz, derived as a chronometer movement for the Patek Philippe Naviquartz clocks, the caliber 33. The caliber 33 was developed utilizing the same photovoltaic system as the previous generations, the different being timekeeping being regulated by a circuit board rather than a mechanical system with a balance spring and regulators.
The present lot features a dome and panels done in multicolor cloisonné enamel depicting waterfowl such as a Kingfisher and a Mallard. These birds are vibrant and large on each of the panels with intricate metalwork separating the blended enamels. According to our research, this is the third dome clock by the enamellist Madame Michèle Mauris to come to market, and the second to feature birds as the main subject.
Please note the present lot is accompanied by a Maker's fitted presentation box and Extract from the Archives. 請注意此拍品附原廠錶盒及後補資料庫精萃。
