2 volumes in 1. Folio (363 x 228 mm). Engraved allegorical frontispiece, titles printed in red and black, 116 engraved plates, 7 smaller engraved illustrations inserted. Rebacked retaining contemporary paneled calf covers. Wear and some chipping to old calf, front free endpaper detached, browning and scattered spotting.
Provenance: Thomas Brotherton of Hey, English MP, 1656-1702 (bookplate on verso of title leaf); Stewart of Glasston (bookplate on front paste-down).

FIRST EDITIONS. The complete collection of Malpighi's writings on his research into the microscopic structures of plant and animal anatomy.
