4to (308 x 240 mm). Half-title. 100 hand-colored plates by and after W.H. Fitch, 100 lithographic plates. Early 20th-century green half morocco by Zaehnsdorf, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt, joints and corners lightly rubbed; occasional faint spotting.
Provenance: Charlotte Anne Fletcher (signature on title).

FIRST EDITION. The descriptions are by Sir William Hooker, director of the Royal Gardens at Kew, with beautiful plates by W.H. Fitch, "the most outstanding botanical artist of his day" (Blunt). Stafleu & Cowan TL2 3015; Great Flower Books p 60; Nissen BBI 918 (1846 edition).
