Folio (340 x 235 mm). General and divisional titles in red and black with printer's woodcut device, within historiated border showing medical vignettes and portraits of famous physicians. Without final blank. Modern half morocco.

Rare early edition of Avicenna (Abu Ali al-Husain ibn Abdullah ibn Sina), with the sumptuously illustrated title borders printing by Giunta of what is perhaps "the most famous medical text ever written" (Garrison). the illustrated title page depicts portraits of the great classical and medieval Islamic figures of medicine and philosophy: Aesculapius, Hippocrates, Galen, Avicena, Rasis, Plato, Aristotle, Theophrastus and Averroes. Durling 382; see Garrison-Morton-Norman 43.
