WIENER WERKSTÄTTE TOYS.

HOFFMANN, JOSEF. 1870-1956. Spielzug 17 Linolschnitte der Schule Prof. Josef Hoffmann. [Vienna: 1922.]
Large 4to. 17 loose linocut plates on Japan paper, title page hand-written in pencil. Contemporary orange paper portfolio with applied yellow paper label on front cover, in later orange portfolio and slipcase, lettered in black. Old tissue paper repairs to folds of portfolio, edges of some plates slightly rubbed, some slight creasing.

These 17 linocut prints, printed in color and highlighted with watercolors, depict toys made by the students of Josef Hoffmann in Vienna. Hoffman was appointed professor at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna in 1899. He was a founding member of the Vienna Secession and the Wiener Werkstätte. The drawings are dated and signed in pencil, some by recognized designers who studied under Hoffmann, including Christa Ehrlich, Gertrud Höchsmann, and Wilhelm Rösler.
