5. Puy, JEAN. La Père Ubu à la guerre. Paris: Georges Crés, 1920. 8vo. Front wrapper vignette, title page vignette, and illustrated plate by Puy. Publisher's wrappers. LIMITED EDITION one of 500 copies on Hollande paper, this example un-numbered.
All with glassine covers on wrappers. The last title with offsetting from wrappers. Contained in a single custom clamshell box.

Vollard adopted the character of Père Ubu from his friend Alfred Jarry, who died in 1907 at only 24 years of age. Jarry bridged the gap between 19th-century and early 20th-century avant-garde, and his satirical Père Ubu character laid the groundwork for Theater of the Absurd and the Surrealist movement.
