2 volumes in 1, large folio (730 x 545 mm). 3 title pages (2 in first work) with engraved vignettes, 51 engraved full-page plates (11 in the second work). Modern calf antique, 7 raised bands on spine, morocco gilt lettering piece on upper cover. Perforations through leaves near gutter, foxing to a few leaves, lower outside corner of last few leaves repaired.
Provenance: William Constable, English naturalist, 1721-1791 (bookplate).

FIRST ENGLISH EDITION, an exceptionally large-margined copy. The plates, originally engraved by Jan Wandelaar for the 1747 Latin edition, were re-engraved by Simon François Ravenet for this edition. Brunet, I, 143; Garrison-Morton-Norman 399; Norman I, 29 (all for the first edition of 1747).
