10 parts in 3 volumes, 8vo (242 x 153 mm). 96 woodcuts on 72 plates and 13 chromo-lithographed maps (10 folding). Later cloth, 9 original wrappers bound in, some rubbing.
Provenance: M.L. Thibaut (French horticulturist, presentation inscription by Harry James Veitch on wrappers).

FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY VEITCH, of this important early manual of orchid cultivation, produced by the leading nursery at the time, describing more than 1,500 species and hybrid. Veitch was instrumental in establishing the Chelsea Flower Show. Stafleu & Cowan TL2 15971 ("the number of plates per fascicle vary in copies seen by us").
