BOETHIUS
[De consolatione] Duplex commentatio ex integro reposita atque recognita in Boetium, black letter, surrounding the text, title printed in red and black with printer's woodcut device and large opening initial, large (different) printer's woodcut device at end, ornamental and pictorial initials throughout, manicules, extensive sixteenth century ownership inscriptions and notes on title and final leaf (including an astrological chart), annotations in several early hands in some margins and pastedowns (waste leaves from a sixteenth century text), early wooden boards, rebacked in eighteenth century vellum, later gilt morocco spine label, sprinkled wormholes to spine, 4to (245 x 170mm.), [Lyon, Claude Davost impenisis Simon Vincent, 1506]

Scarce edition of Boethius' De consolatione edited with commentary by Jocodus Badius Ascensius, and another previously attributed to Thomas Aquinas.
Provenance: Many inscriptions by several sixteenth century owners, one concerning the captivity of friar Luipolt in 1518, others mentioning family events of Urban Marzin, who received the book in 1558 from "Michaele, N. confratri Garstenis" [near Steyr, Austria].
