Philip Rashleigh (1729-1811), of Menabilly in Cornwall, was one of the most celebrated mineralogists in England. He assembled one of the finest collections of minerals in Cornwall, and the present work is devoted to the most important specimens in his possession. The collection is now in the Natural History Museum in London.

To clarify, Rasheligh's mineral collection was purchased by the Royal Institution of Cornwall in 1902 and most of the specimens are today on display in the Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro. A smaller number of specimens from the wider Rashleigh family are today in the Natural History Museum collection.
