Footnotes

A small archive of "psychic" photographs with a distinguished provenance. Most of the images show the physical medium Jack Webber holding seances, including scenes of ectoplasm emerging from the medium's body, dematerialisation, levitation of a table weighing 45lbs, and astral spirits, one of those in attendance being Helen Duncan, a Scottish medium who was the last person prosecuted under the Witchcraft Act 1735.

Provenance: Henry Edwards (1893-1976), "The Great Healer"; his daughter Felicity J. Medland, author of two biographical works relating to Harry, A Slice of Life (1997) and Life Around My Father Harry Edwards (2007), copies of which are included in the lot. Sold with a letter, signed and dated 21 Jan. 2023, stating that the archive belonged to her father, and that at 99 years old she is "the last living person to have witnessed the seances with the physical medium Jack Webber [shown in the photographs], which were carried out by the Balham Psychic Research Society in my home, 11 Childebert Road...".
