A fine and rare mid to late 18th century brass-mounted musical and quarter chiming table clock

Eardley Norton, London, No. 1055
The bell topped case with four lobed urn finials framing the capped pedestal and brass mounts, over stop-fluted canted front angles and glazed sides to a brass-bound base on small ogee bracket feet. The seven inch dial with signed shallow arch and twin subsidiaries for Chime/Not Chime and a tune selection, offering Minuet, Dance, Air and Gavot, the Roman and Arabic chapter ring with matted centre and chamfered date aperture. The substantial triple gut (now wire) fusee movement with knife-edge verge escapement rack striking the hours on a single bell and sounding the quarters and playing the tunes on a run of eight bells and fifteen hammers, the backplate boldly signed (repeat numbered to the top right hand corner) amid foliate scrolls below a basket of fruit. Ticking, striking and chiming, together with a later case key for both front and rear locks. 50cms (19.5ins) high.
