An exceptional early 19th century brass-mounted and inlaid mahogany quarter-striking organ clock playing ten tunes on 34 pipes

The impressive case surmounted by a ball finial over capped pedestals and pineapple mounts, over an inlaid stylised Greek-key cornice on brass Ionic columns, to a spreading base with repeat inlaid frieze. The whole set on a later bespoke brass-mounted pedestal base with egg-and-dart cornice, beading and acanthus leaf decoration.
The 12 inch arched painted dialplate with Roman dial signed Thwaites & Reed, Clerkenwell, Londres and matching brass hands set over twin subsidiaries for repeat/silence and tune selection comprising of ten tunes: five Waltz's, a Tyrolese, a Coolun, a Song and two Contradanza , a central brass hand giving the three options of Silent, Play Each Hour and Play, all framed by hand-painted flowers in different colours on a buff ground.
The spring driven clock movement with three chain fusees driving an anchor escapement, rack striking on the hour and chiming the quarters on a run of eight bells and hammers, with trip repeat, the backplate with repeat signature within an engraved border. The spring driven organ movement wound from the side, with chain drive to a 12 inch wooden long pinned barrel playing on a series of 34 pipes, the interior also set with a further 17 silver-coloured dummy pipes, over the restored bellows. A brass plaque to the side of the case is set with a repeat cord and three push/pull stops engraved Organ Stops: Diapason; Flute and Fifteenth. 2.39m (7ft 10ins) high.
