Upon murdering his friend, Iphitos, in a fit of rage induced by Hera, Heracles sought out the oracle of Delphi for an omen to atone for his rage. The oracle didn't want to give Heracles an omen, and for this he grabbed the tripod from underneath her. Apollo attempted to prevent the theft, but instead ended up fighting with the hero, with Zeus being forced to intervene to end the quarrel.
