Footnotes
The present work is derived from Hans Holbein's portrait now in the Frick Collection, New York (acc.no.1915.1.76).
Various elements of original design can be seen in the present portrait, most notably the striking patterned fur-lined jacket and evidence of preparatory underdrawing show the sensitive rendering of the sitter's facial features (infrared image is available upon request).
