A FINE BLUE AND WHITE, COPPER-RED AND CELADON-GLAZED VASE, MEIPING
Kangxi
Of elegant baluster form rising from a broad shallow foot, waisted sides and a high rounded shoulder to a narrow mouth with an everted lip, decorated around the exterior in underglaze blue and red, and celadon, with two scholars on a rocky ledge beside a lake with a man in a fishing boat, three birds fly high above them, a small pavilion beside a bridge and the roof another visible in the hills, all amidst various trees. 18.4cm (7 1/4in) high.

This combination of form and decoration appears to be extremely rare. See a related blue and white meiping vase, Kangxi, with similar decoration, illustrated in Qing Shunzhi Kangxi chao qinghua ci, Beijing, 2005, pp.424-425, no.276.
The combination of underglaze blue and red and celadon decoration is an innovation of the Kangxi period and is more often found on brushpots. See a brushpot with related landscape in underglaze blue, copper-red and celadon glaze, Kangxi, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Small Refined Articles of the Study, Shanghai, 2009, p.88, no.58.
