Footnotes

Provenance:
Robert Rousset, Paris (1901-1981), acquired from Smit Gallery, Bangkok, 19 April 1965
Jean-Pierre Rousset, Paris (1936-2021)

Although missing the upper section of his jatamukuta, the remaining row of buds with the remains of two folded legs of Amitabha at the front confirms the identity of this head as Avalokiteshvara. Compare with a closely related head sold by Christie's New York, 16 September 2008, lot 566.
