A POTTERY MODEL OF A HORSE AND RIDER
Wei Dynasty (386-550 AD)
The soldier finely modelled seated atop a caparisoned horse, the right arm extended along his waist, the left arm bent, the horse with a saddle and a long cloth cascading above the mud guards, with traces of pigments. 26.9cm (10 5/8in) high.

Compare with a related pottery figure of a horse and rider, Northern Wei dynasty, illustrated in Into the Afterlife: Han and Six Dynasties Chinese Tomb Sculpture from the Schloss Collection, New York, 1990, no.35, which was later sold at Sotheby's New York, 15 September 2018, lot 1392.
