A GOLD-LACQUER THREE-CASE INRO
Japan, Edo Period (1615-1868), probably mid 19th century
Of upright, rectangular form, the unusual ray-skin ground decorated in gold takamaki-e, kirikane and discrete details inlaid in shell with a large flowering cherry tree, whose flowering branches continue over the reverse, shrubs of sasa (bamboo) issuing from rocks on the ground, the top and bottom cases of plain kinji lacquer, the interior of nashiji; unsigned; the mixed metal tubular ojime with two figures; unsigned. 7cm (2 3/4in) x 6cm (2 3/8in).
