An Albisola maiolica circular dish, Grosso workshop, second half 17th century

Painted in blue with a scene depicting the Rape of Europa in the well and a band of alternating floral and foliate motifs, the reverse with a striped band reserved with stylised floral motifs above the footrim, 45cm diam., lantern mark in blue (haircrack to rim)

A dish with a very similar border painted with a scene depicting the Triumph of Bacchus, attributed to the Grosso workshop in Albisola, is in the Museo civico in Genova (published F. Marzinot, Ceramica e ceramisti die Liguria (1979), ill. 259).
