A rare Meissen footed stand from the Sulkowski Service, circa 1735-38

Moulded with a basketwork border around the rim, painted four times with the arms of Sulkowski and Stein zu Jettingen and scattered indianische Blumen, mounted on a flared, lobed foot moulded with twelve basketwork panels and gilt-edged rims, contemporary gilt-metal mounts, 27.2cm across; 9.5cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, impressed Dreher's mark for Andreas Schiefer (restored)

A specification of a delivery of the service delivered to the Japanese Palace, dated 8 February 1738 and signed by Höroldt, includes '6 Stück Credenz Teller' (published by G. Reinheckel, Meissener Prunkservice (1989), n. 102, p. 197-198). Two such footed stands were among the pieces that remained with the Sulkowski family until sold at Sotheby's London, 23 May 1967, lots 43 and 44 (possibly the present lot).
