A Pesaro, Manifattura Ignazio Callegari, maiolica jug, first quarter 19th century

Decorated with a Greek inscription within a red beaded border surrounded by green foliage and scrolls, flanked by flowering branches, with pinched spout and applied with a scrolling handle painted with foliage, 18.3cm high, No. 3. / I.F.C / P in manganese (small chips)

Footnotes

The Greek inscription translates loosely as: "To enjoy our friendship, as we mutually want that to be, let no one of us get drunk".

A similar jug is in the Museo delle Ceramiche in Pesaro. And another
with a different inscription was sold at Christie's London, 25 February 2014, lot 327.
