A 16th century South German carved limewood figure of a male saint, possibly depicting St James

Probably Swabian or Franconian
The figure with tightly curled beard and wavy locks, his heard turned slightly to dexter wearing a typical pilgrim's hat and clad in flowing robes, his left hand holding a small open book, the whole supported on a naturalistic integral base, some original polychrome and gilt decoration, the figures right hand now lacking and with some losses and overpainting, 70.9cm high overall
