A 12-bore sidelock hammer gun by W. R. Pape, no. 1876

The action incorporating Pape's patent no. 2488 of 3 September 1867 push-forward thumblever-opening action, non-rebounding sidelocks, the C-scroll hammers with spurs of hare's-ear form (the left striker in need of repair), carved serpentine fences, best foliate-scroll engraving, well-figured stock with engraved heel- and toe-plates (minor crack to the rear of right lockplate), the forend with ornate chequering, the damascus barrels with game-rib engraved 'W.R. Pape, Newcastle on Tyne, Winner of the London Gun Trials in 1858, 1859 & 1866'
Weight 7lb. 10oz., 14½in. stock, 30in. barrels, 2½in. chambers, London Black Powder proof (right bore diameter marginal)
