Footnotes

William Thomas 1 Bond is recorded at 59 Lombard Street, London between 1803 and 1836

The second with old handwritten note attached reading: 'Self Acting Rev'g Pistol 6-chambers semi-pepperpot nipples Deane-Adams type hammer-safe... Provenance of this pistol. The c-80 gauge, and another of identical pattern c:52 gauge, were both purchased - (still in the white) - from Mr J.N. Harper, Price St. (trading as John Harper Gun & Rifle Maker) - 1939 midsummer. The c:80 gauge (this pistol) was taken to Mr. Wm. LANE, Price St. to be rifled. N.B. - both pistols were still SMOOTH, i.e. had been proved smooth, normal B. Pdr: procedure. This pistol had been subsequently re-proofed in London. Mr. Lane's cutter broke-through into the bore due to original careless milling of the lever-relief. He turned & bored-up for rifling an insert tube & sweated it in. Total cost: 9/- The 52-gauge pistol (damaged) was lost when his workshop contents were moved to Heron Garage, Knowle, where he did xpl work for the M:/Supply'
