IRIS VAN HERPEN: THE 'BENE GESSERIT' GOWN
Worn by Grimes at the 2021 Met Gala
Silver liquid silicone and gradient silk
To be sold with the original sketches, signed by Iris van Herpen, and two tickets to the July 4th 2022 Iris Van Herpen show.
Canadian musician Grimes wore this custom designed gown to the Met Gala at the Costume Institute Benefit in 2021.The gown is inspired by the Bene Gesserit cult group in the film Dune (2022).
It is made from silver liquid silicone with a mirror finish and arranged in a laser-cut labyrinth design culminating in a 3-dimensional relief on a nude illusion bodice. Each silicone piece is individually hand-casted in three layers.
From the intricate bodice, twenty-six meters of dramatically draped silk floats down organically and was hand-pleated and gradient-died from white to black. The process of making the 'Bene Gesserit' Gown took over 900 hours.
