A RARE SMALL APPLE GREEN GLASS WATERPOT
Qianlong four-character mark and of the period
Of compressed globular form surmounted by a gently tapering rim, the countersunk base incised with four-character Qianlong nianzhi mark in regular script in a square, the vessel of apple green tone, box. 3.2cm (1 1/4in) high, 5.8cm (2 1/4in) diam. (2).

Waterpots formed an essential part of the accoutrements used by scholars. The elegant form of the present lot displays continuity of the aesthetic sense of the Yongzheng emperor formulated by the artisans at the Palace Workshops; see a related opaque green glass waterpot, Yongzheng mark and period, illustrated by The Art Museum, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Elegance and Radiance: Grandeur in Qing Glass. 水丞為吹製而成，直口，束頸，股腹，平底内凹。通體蘋果綠色不透明光素玻璃，體内泛出不規則波浪紋。底部陰刻單方框，内刻「乾隆年製」雙竪行楷書款。
水丞是文房必備的用具，可以盛水，可供洗筆。此水丞造型優雅，繼承了雍正時期的藝術審美要求，類似的一件雍正款不透明青瓷色玻璃水丞，見《虹影瑤輝：李景勳藏清代玻璃》，香港，2000年，圖版57。另參考兩件故宮博物院藏乾隆款暗紅色及茶色透明玻璃水丞，收編在《光凝秋水：清宮造辦處玻璃》，北京，2005年，圖版41、42。
