A TIANHUANG 'LOTUS AND BUTTERFLY' SEAL
Mid Qing Dynasty
The orange-yellow stone smoothly carved with a continuous scene of lotus pods and blossoms emerging from water with finely incised ripples, beneath a large lotus leaf and fluttering butterfly, the seal face carved with the characters '渊雅堂' (Yuanya Tang), box. 6cm (2 1/2in) high, 60g. (2).

清中期 田黃王芑孫淵雅堂印
Yuanya Tang is the studio name of Wang Qisun (1755-1818), zi Nianfeng, hao Tiefu, Yunfang, Qisheng, born in Suzhou. He was an official in Songjiang as well as a well-known calligrapher and librarian at the National Academy in Beijing.
印鈕浮雕通景荷塘,荷葉俯仰展卷,間以荷花一朵,蝴蝶一隻,莖桿下陰刻水波紋,熟栗色,質地溫潤,印面刻陽文「淵雅堂」。
淵雅堂為王芑孫(1755-1818)堂號,王字念豐,一字漚波,號鐵夫,晚號老鐵,江蘇常州人。明代大學時王鏊十世孫。乾隆五十三年舉人,充咸安宮漢教習。宦京其間與法是善,洪吉亮等人酬唱往來。擅書法,學劉墉,亦工篆刻,作品存世稀少。著有《淵雅堂集》,《楞伽山房集》等。
