TWO RARE BLACK AND RED PAINTED LACQUER BOWLS

Warring States Period
Each with steep sides, the exterior and the rim lacquered in black and painted with red and brown dramatic swirling lines interlaced with small curls and other forms, known as yunqi patterns, the interior and the flat surface around the rim lacquered red. 24.6cm (9 3/4in) and 21.2cm (8 3/8in) diam. (2).

See a closely related black and red painted lacquer bowl with geometric designs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, acc.no.1994.44.

木胎,碗呈圓形,直壁,圈足。外部通體黑漆地上用朱褐漆繪雲氣紋,口沿内以朱色勾邊,碗内髹朱漆,所繪紋樣工整雅緻。參看紐約大都會博物館一件相關黑地朱繪雲氣紋漆碗,編號1994.44。
