The Military Seamaster 300 was manufactured for the British Forces under strict guidelines given by the Ministry of Defence. The official document includes the specifications of the solid bars for the attachment of a NATO style canvas strap, the bezel with register for the full 60, Tritium luminous paint applied to the hands and dial symbolised by a T in a circle on the latter and oversize hands for clear legibility. Due to the fact that this watch was very much a tool watch many were discarded, destroyed or changed making complete examples quite sought after.
The current lot is offered on behalf of the family of the original owner who was in the 15/19th Kings Royal Hussars, A Squadron, from 1960 to 1982. As a young soldier the owner mainly served on tanks and in particular a Chieftain - a model that dominated as the main battle tank for most of the second half of the 20th Century for the United Kingdom. The owner served in numerous places including Germany, Cyprus and Northern Ireland and his hard work, dedication and good humour earned him a rapid set of promotions with him ending his service as a Regimental Quartermaster (WO2 RQMS).
