The Cartier Tortue has appeared in the brands' repertoire for over a century after Louis Cartier first designed the piece in 1912. French for turtle, the Tortue has a gently curved case and traditionally was a time-only piece. The current lot is an excellent example of an early Tortue from Circa 1915 and despite being over 100 years old is still a very wearable and contemporary looking piece. This is one of the earliest Cartier Tortue watches we have seen and the inside case back is stamped E.W.C for European Watch Company. It is a beautifully preserved example of an early wristwatch and as elegant today as when it was first created.
