In 1942 Patek Philippe launched the reference 1543 which was in production for around 8 years. The cases were made by F. Baumgartner and the dials by Stern Freres. The dials can be split into two main categories - silvered and pink metal. They all typically had long thin indexes and deco stylised radial Arabic 3, 9 and 12 hour markers. The current lot represents an early example with the hour markers, signature and subsidiary dial all hard enamelled giving it a longevity other metal dials do not have.
The 1543 was produced in a very small volume and it is believed there are around only 30 examples in yellow gold and then 15, as with the current lot, in rose gold.
