The present work depicts boats in the harbor, including a steamship and a dinghy with two figures in the foreground, before an early view of Yaquina City, Oregon. According to an Oregon Historical Society letter dated October 27, 1986, an artist's family member identified the scene as Yaquina Bay looking toward the shore and it was executed circa 1887-88 when the artist was living in San Francisco.
