Bush v. Gore is the Supreme Court decision of December 12, 2000 that settled the Presidential election recount dispute in the state of Florida, handing the state's electoral votes (and the election) to George W. Bush. Ginsburg famously dissented in the case, feeling that the court should have let the Florida State Supreme Court continue its supervision of a recount. Her opinion concludes, "In sum, the Court's conclusion that a constitutionally adequate recount is impractical is a prophecy the Court's own judgment will not allow to be tested. Such an untested prophecy should not decide the Presidency of the United States. / I dissent."
