Kassebaum represented Kansas in the U.S. Senate from 1978-1997, the state's first female Senator. She was a moderate Republican and the co-sponsor of the Kennedy-Kassebaum Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), with Senator Ted Kennedy. An excellent association between two "Way Pavers."
