Footnotes

Whalebone walking canes were fashioned by whalers in the 19th century - the bone of the Sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) was considered the only material from the whale not of trade value at the time, unlike the Sperm oil. Similar sticks can be found in museums and institutions including the Nantucket whaling Museum, United States.
