A REMARKABLE QUARTER CHIMING DOMESTIC REGULATOR WITH PERPETUAL CALENDAR, EQUATION OF TIME AND PHASE OF THE MOON
Commissioned by Henry Ford from J. Morrison & Son, London
Date: Circa 1930
Movement: In two linked parts, mounted on a substantial bracket fixed to a brass backboard, the three train weight driven going and striking work with massive rectangular plates joined by screwed pillars, jeweled deadbeat escapement, maintaining power, high count train with six spoked wheels, jeweled end stops to the third wheel, escape wheel and anchor, beat adjustment to the steel rod pendulum with beat adjustment to the crutch, cylindrical bob; quarter chiming with eight hammers on eight blued gongs, selection switch for Westminster / Whittington, further gong for the hour; the calendar plate with similar six spoke wheel work, suspended below with date wheel incorporating Equation kidney
Dial: Silvered, in two parts both 12-inches square, the upper with engraved floral spandrels and minute ring enclosing roman chapters, blued hands and center seconds; the lower for the calendar with sector for Equation of Time, aperture for age and aspect of the Moon, subsidiary dials for day, date and month, blued hands, signed J. Morrison & Sons, 27 Packington St., London, 8986
Case: Purpose made of pattern pine in the Ford River Rouge shop, rectangular on flared base with latched glazed doors to the front and sides, circular lenticle

According to Henry Ford Museum records this clock is one of two with identical movements ordered by Henry Ford from the renowned precision clock making firm, J. Morrison & Sons. One of these was cased in mahogany for use the Ford Home, Fairlane where it remains today. The present clock was delivered without a case. Presumably for Ford's personal use, the case was made in the factory pattern shop out of pine. It was eventually placed in the Museum and deaccessioned in 1988 when it was acquired by the present owner.
