Footnotes
Cartier wristwatches are synonymous with elegance and design, whether they are the renowned "Crash" asymmetrical wristwatch evoking Salvador Dali's surrealist paintings or the "Baignoire", an elongated, curvex design which hugs the wrist (see lot 26). The present watch is of the "Helm" variety and A similar duplicate of this watch, in pocket form, is published in "Cartier the Power of Style", pg. 264. The present wrist watch has small, oval lugs, and, where the crown would be located on a pocket watch version at 12 is a massive, blue cabochon, emphasizing the design of the concentric rings and the twelfth hour.
This "helm" wristwatch was gifted to a member of the family of the present owner.
