Footnotes
In 1957, Cartier launched the original Baignoire, an oval wristwatch aptly named for its bathtub-like shape. These models were only available in the New York and London boutiques. Soon after its release, the "Allongée" was made available to the public. It is slightly larger and is a design that encapsulates so much of the aesthetic of the 1960s.
This particular model hails from Cartier's London workshop. These entirely handmade specimens are exceedingly rare, and thus are not often seen at auction.
