A good and rare mid 19th century brass-inlaid mahogany drop dial timepiece

Massey, Strand London
The 9.5 inch signed white Roman dial with blued steel Breguet-style moon hands, the domed glass enclosed by a cast brass bezel with wood surround, a hanging hook to the back of the box, with observation doors to the right and the base, the throat of the diminutive trunk bearing large palm-leaf ears, over an inlaid trunk. The single gut (now wire) fusee movement with elaborately shaped plates united by four knopped pillars and anchor escapement. Ticking, together with a pendulum and winding key. 30cms (12ins) high.
