A good and rare late 19th century French grande-sonnerie striking carriage clock on four gongs
Numbered 3148
The Anglaise style case with Greek key handle above a deep bevelled inspection panel, repeat button, glazed sides and stepped base, with three-position selection lever below offering Hours and Quarters/Quarters Only or Silent . The Roman and Arabic dial with gilt highlights over an Arabic alarm-setting dial within a plain gilt mask. The three spring barrel movement with a silvered jewelled English lever platform escapement and a cut and compensated bimetallic balance, rack striking and repeating on four hammers and four blued steel gongs, engraved English directions on the back plate around the winding squares. Ticking and striking. 20cms (7.5 ins) high
