A Meissen 'Cris de Paris' figure of a lottery seller, circa 1755
Modelled by Peter Reinicke, holding a rolled-up paper in his right hand and wearing the drum strapped across his back with moulded hands and Roman numerals painted on the top. wearing a lavender jacket, green waistcoat and yellow breeches, the base moulded with gilt-edged scrollwork and applied with leaves and flowers, 15cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue to the rear of base, impressed 21 (left forefinger chipped)

Based on a drawing by Cristophe Huet of 1753 inscribed: 'no 21 Ch (?). Einer, der die Lotterie-Biletts ausruft, was er in der Hand hat, ist ein hohles Ding, worinnen er die Biletts hat, auf dem Rücken hat er einen hölzernen runden Kasten, ober der Deckel stellt ein Zifferblatt vor mit einer eisernen Nadel N 18 1753. Ich sähe sehr gerne daß erwähnte Nadel von Messing ... (?). die sich leicht dreht, demacht würde, damit man diese Figuren beim Dessert zu diesem Spiel gebrauchen könnte' [...one who calls out the lottery tickets, what he has in the hand is a hollow thing in which he has the tickets, on his back he has a round wooden box, on top the cover shows a clock face with an iron needle ... I would very much like to see the above-mentioned iron needle made, which can be turned, so that these figures could be used for a game during the dessert]; quoted by M. Eberle, Cris de Paris (2001), no.45, who illustrates the drawing by Huet and another example of the figure.
