A pair of Meissen models of leopards, mid 18th century

Modelled by J.J. Kaendler, each seated on its hind legs with slightly open mouth, the coats with black spots and detailed in grey, the bases applied with leaves and flowers, 14.5cm and 13cm high, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue to rear of bases (one restuck through front legs and across base and with chip to tail, minor chips to both) (2)

A similar single leopard in the Dr. Ernst Schneider Collection, Schloss Lustheim, is illustrated by R. Rückert, Meissener Porzellan (1966), no. 1052, where the model is dated to 1749.
