A Meissen group of a pastoral couple, circa 1745-50

Modelled by J.J. Kaendler, the lady seated playing the lute, wearing a whote bodice with blue and yellow ribbons and yellow cuffs and a skirt decorated with flower sprigs, her companion holding a posy in each hand, holding his tricorn under his left arm, wearing a gilt-edged white coat and turquoise breeches with purple ribbons, a small tree with leaves and berries between them and a recumbent sheep at their feet, 13.2cm high (minor restoration)

Footnotes

Modelled by Kaendler in November 1745 when mentioned in his Taxa: "ein Groupgen, da eine Schäfferin auff einem Rasen sizt und auff der Laute spielet, neben ihr stehet ein Schäffer, so ihr ein Blühmigen Vergißmeinnicht verehret" [a group with a shepherdess seated on the grass and playing the lute, a shepherd stands next to her offering her forget-me-nots] (quoted by Hans Rafael, Zur "Taxa Kaendler", in Keramos203/204 (2009), p. 66).
