A pair of Meissen lobed teabowls and saucers, circa 1730-35
Of quatrelobe shape, each decorated with panels of Böttger lustre embellished with gilt trellis pattern and reserved with a central flower rosette, alternating with panels of iron-red and gilt prunus branches, each saucer well with a gilt chrysanthemum head surrounded by four iron-red chrysanthemums connected by iron-red branches and gilt leaves, the rims gilt, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue, one teabowl and saucer with painted red inventory or collector's marks, (two tiny chips to one teabowl rim) (4)

Another teabowl and saucer with this rare decoration is in the Ernst Schneider Collection, illustrated in J. Weber, Meißener Porzellane mit Dekoren nach ostasiatischen Vorbildern, vol. II (2013), p.317, no. 312. Julia Weber notes that it is very likely the pattern was copied from a Japanese original, but none has so far been discovered. A few pieces with impressed numerals show that the factory continued producing the pattern after 1739.
